What I has learned in user experience between Web1.0 and Web2.0.

There are many different elements between Web1.0 and Web2.0. One of them is page rendering. Static pages gradually evolved into dynamic pages and information supply change into to supply content and applications. With the new technologies such as Ajax, html5 applied extensively, users have more diverse experience. These changes may affect user experience and whole website design.

Design: Many Web 2.0 interfaces designed similar to the desktop environment. The industries try to let users work online as same as they use software in a PC. For example, Hotmail and Yahoo mail interface was designed like desktop e-mail software to provide users a familiar environment. Gradually, users transfer their habit from a desktop interface model to an online model.

Furthermore, Because of this way encompasses the combination of the desktop application and browser applications, many kinds of browser application like dynamic menus and dynamic feedback with new technologies was widely used in Web2.0 website. However, there still have some issue for this trend. Different Browsers is one of the problems. Compatibility and complexity issues may bring a lot of troubles for the designer.

On the other hand, another different element of Web1.0 and Web2.0 is the communicative way of information. Web1.0 is one-way information dissemination. The message starts from Website owner. But Web2.0 is usually two-way to receive the message. So this kind of Communication style will push website owner to plan more user interactive methods and application to satisfy users’ need. Like the writing and editing mode in wiki.

In my opinion, simple to say, rich user experiences is to use the internet power with new technology to combine with user interface, and make it close to pc interface. After that, it may get rid of desktop software and complete all the work on online.

  1. The most different between Web1.0 and Web2.0 is the content. It's only one way in disseminate information in generation of Web1.0. However, in the time of Web2.0, its require and improve the quality of website and information because Web2.0 allow people "communicate" on the net. As the result, the news which comes from Web2.0 is more reliable, in other words, it has to experiencing more serious judgement as well.

  2. An interesting article, in my opinion, web 2.0 involves people to communicate each other more than web1.0 and it develops the interaction between users because it's a two ways communication.

  3. Using the development of email to examine two generations of the web is a clever idea. It plays an important role in rich user experience by improving its UI and functions.

  5. Great post Wilson!

I strongly agree with you about the first part of your article that page rendering exactly is the most evolved elements in Web 2.0 content. This is also a elements which has a strong connect to the design pattern we discussed last week, the RUE.

And the example you gave, the web email is a great example to support this design pattern very well. I have used many web emails, like gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc. In my opinion, each of them has its strong point. But the same thing is they are all trying to make the interface more complicated just like you said. The companys are not only making the web mail box's interface as same as the software in a PC, but also even better than the software in a PC.

And the Different Browsers problems you mentioned is turly a huge issue even happens frequently in our class, lecture(many classes, not only web2. So Wilson do you have any idea of the further strategy for this matter?
